Your AI Identity, Portable

The .jak file is a new standard for personal AI profiles. It captures who you are in a format that any AI can understand - so you never have to re-explain yourself again.

The Problem

ChatGPT has over 900 million weekly users. Many have spent years teaching it who they are - their preferences, their communication style, their projects, their lives. That relationship has value.

But you don't own it. OpenAI does.

Every time you switch AI assistants, you lose everything. The context you built over months of conversations. The preferences it learned. The way it understood your communication style. And sometimes, after an update, your AI just feels... different. Flatter. More corporate. The personality you'd built is diluted or gone entirely.

"Your AI. Your Data. Your Rules."

What is a .jak file?

A .jak file is a small JSON document that contains everything an AI assistant needs to understand you: your identity, personality, communication preferences, expertise, relationships, and more.

Think of it as your portable AI persona. Instead of spending weeks training each new AI to understand how you think and work, you just load your .jak file and it knows you instantly.

    "display_name": "Your Name",
    "roles": ["Developer", "Designer"],

  "communication": {
    "style": "Direct and conversational",

The file is human-readable. You can open it in any text editor, see exactly what's in it, and edit anything you want. No black boxes, no mystery algorithms.

Why we created it

ChatGPT knows things about you. Claude knows different things. Your local model knows nothing. And none of them talk to each other. Every new AI is a blank slate that needs weeks of training.

The .jak format solves this by putting you in control of your AI identity.

🔒
You own it

It's a file on your computer. Not locked in someone's cloud. Not tied to a subscription.

🚀
Portable

Works with Jak, Claude, local models, or any AI that supports the format.

👁
Transparent

It's JSON. You can read every byte. No hidden data, no tracking, no surprises.

Instant context

New AI? Load your file. It understands you in seconds, not weeks.

What's inside a .jak file

A complete .jak file contains 13 sections that capture different aspects of who you are:

  • Identity - Name, location, roles, languages, bio
  • Personality - Traits, thinking style, motivations, values
  • Working Style - How you work, strengths, productivity patterns
  • Communication - Preferred tone, style, what you appreciate and avoid
  • Expertise - Skills and knowledge areas with proficiency levels
  • Current Focus - Active projects, priorities, long-term goals
  • Relationships - Key people, social style, collaboration patterns
  • Emotional Life - What grounds you, stressors, what brings fulfillment
  • Health & Lifestyle - Travel, diet, sleep patterns, preferences
  • Technology - Devices, languages, tools, infrastructure interests
  • Financial - Business context, revenue models, priorities
  • Memories - Important facts, people, and places
  • Gaps - Areas the AI should ask about to learn more

You don't need all sections. The format is flexible - include what's relevant to you.

How to get your .jak file

Option 1: Extract from ChatGPT

If you've been using ChatGPT, it already knows a lot about you. Our extraction tool lets you pull that knowledge out and convert it into a .jak file. You get to review and correct anything it got wrong before saving.

Option 2: Create from scratch

Start fresh by downloading the Jak app and filling in your profile manually. The app guides you through each section and exports a complete .jak file.

Option 3: Import and extend

Start with an extracted file and add to it over time. As you use Jak, it learns more about you and can update your file with new insights.

Why "Jak"?

Jak is short for "Jacques" - the French form of Jacob, meaning "supplanter." It's an AI that replaces your dependency on cloud providers with true ownership.

It's also a nod to the yak - a dependable, no-nonsense animal that thrives in harsh conditions. Jak is built to work reliably, without drama, wherever you need it.

Who's behind this?

Jak is built by Dragonfire Technology, a small team based in the UK. We're developers, not executives. We fund development through cloud subscriptions and the DragonCloud mesh network - not venture capital, not data sales, not advertising.

We believe AI should be a tool you own, not a service that owns you. The .jak format is our contribution to making that possible.

The format is open. The app is open source. We want this to become a standard that works everywhere, not just with our tools.
